Kombucha: Reap The Benefits Of The “Miracle Tea” With This Simple Recipe...

Kombucha, the fermented tea drink which has become a favorite of celebrities like Madonna, Lindsay Lohan, and Gwyneth Paltrow, has been hyped as a cure-all for almost every disease under the sun.

Its mystical properties are said to help banish everything from headaches to cancer. And while proving its medicinal qualities is a challenge, actually making kombucha is not. This simple recipe will help you brew your own batch of the “tea of immortality” in no time.

  • 3 1/2 quarts water
  • 1 cup sugar (regular granulated sugar works best)
  • 8 bags black tea, green tea, or a mix (or 2 tablespoons loose tea)
  • 2 cups starter tea from last batch of kombucha or store-bought kombucha (unpasteurized, neutral-flavored)
  • 1 SCOBY (a solid yeast and bacteria culture) per fermentation jar, homemade or purchased online

Add the sugar to the water and boil until the sugar is dissolved.  Remove from the heat and add the tea bags, steeping them until the water has cooled. Once cool, strain the tea and mix in the starter tea. Divide into jars, add the SCOBY, cover with cloth and allow to ferment for 5-7 days (via Minds). Check out the video below…
